Paint Me a Sparkling Thursday: The Story Behind the Title

As the opening of my latest exhibition draws near, I wanted to share the story behind its title, Paint Me a Sparkling Thursday (Mal meg en sprudlende torsdag). Rooted in a poem I wrote over 20 years ago, the name reflects a playful yet profound exploration of joy, choice, and life’s vibrant palette.

The poem, Sprudlende tirsdag (Sparkling Tuesday), emerged during a time of deep reflection. It invites us to embrace life’s hues—both literal and metaphorical—and challenges us to find meaning in the choices we make each day. One line, in particular, resonates: “Paint me a tone in blue and gold, paint me the color of your smile.”

Rediscovering this poem felt like reconnecting with a younger version of myself, a reminder of the power we hold to craft our lives. For this exhibition, I adjusted the title to honor its Thursday opening, but the essence remains: a celebration of the colors we choose to define ourselves and the joy in daring to express them.

This spirit comes alive in the works displayed, from serene simplicity to bold, layered compositions—a spectrum of emotions and moments, a celebration of life itself.

Join me on January 23rd at Krane Galleri in Tromsø, and together, let’s explore the beauty of a “Sparkling Thursday.”
