Art has the power to express what words sometimes fail to capture. When I created Immenced by Light for the Sparkling Thursday Exhibition, I searched for a word that could fully encompass the experience I wanted to convey—something beyond existing definitions. Neither immense nor immersed felt quite right on their own, yet together they formed something new:
Immenced – a state of being both vast and deeply enveloped, like floating within something infinite.
This word became the perfect title for an artwork that embodies this feeling. A lone rower glides through still waters, embraced by an ethereal glow. The sky and sea dissolve into each other, stretching into an endless horizon. Light is not just an external force but something the figure is immersed in—something vast yet intimate, profound yet quiet.
That’s the essence of being immenced—to be both surrounded by and a part of something greater, held within its immensity.
To bring this concept to life in different ways, I have created three sizes of the artwork, each carrying a unique expression of this theme:
-
Large: Immenced by Light – The original vision, capturing the vastness of light’s embrace, 68 x 47 cm
-
Medium: Immenced by Light’s Magic – A more intimate perspective, where light becomes something almost otherworldly, 48 x 32 cm.
-
Small: Immenced by Light’s Stillness – A quiet, contemplative moment within the vastness, 28 x 18 cm.
